Aberdeen
International Youth Festival offers variety of options for students interested
in learning more about traditional music and improving your skills. Splore
Traditional Music Summer School 28 July - 1 August 2008
The
Splore offers classes in fiddle, whistle, guitar and percussion for students aged
12 - 16, with tutors from leading young trad band Bodega. (http://www.footstompin.com/artists/bodega)
All
for just £100 including lunch.
There will also be special two day
piping course running during the course.
The course ends with a public
sharing for friends and family on Friday 1 August.
Ceol
Mor Residency Scotland's Young Traditional Big Band 30 July - 9 August
Ceol Mor is the Aberdeen International Youth Festival's young traditional
big band, made up of some of the most most promising young musicians from
Scotland and overseas.
The
courses are both part of the Aberdeen
International Youth Festival, so you will have the opportunity to meet and
work with the international participants and take part in Festival events.

Past students include
Mairearad Green, (cloud 9) Mark Laurenson, Vaila Tait, Innes Watson (Borders Young
Fiddles) and Amy Lord - both semi-finalists at the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional
Musician Award 2004.
Students have gone on to study at Plockton and RSAMD
and many are now pursuing careers in traditional music.
Most students on
the Splore come from Scotland, but we have welcomed students from Brittany in
France, Waterford in Ireland, Israel, Japan and Norway. |
